AppleWatch Chrome face or aluminium?

Hi

There is no chrome Apple Watch - you are referring to:

- Apple Watch, which has a stainless steel case;

- Apple Watch Sport, which has an anodised aluminium case.

Note that Apple does not recommend polishing or buffing the watch with abrasives:

Any 38mm or 42mm Apple Watch band - including the full range of Sport Bands - will fit any Apple Watch of the same case size.

The stainless steel does scratch some. However, it's not terribly noticeable and doesn't detract in any way from the usefulness of the watch.

The Apple Watch (stainless steel) uses Sapphire Crystal to cover the display whereas the Apple Watch Sport (aluminum) uses Ion-X Glass.

I have the Apple Watch Sport and in hindsight, I wish I had spent the addition money to get the Sapphire Crystal as the Ion-X Glass seems to scratch very easily. If you go with Apple Watch Sport, I suggest a screen protector of some sort.

That was the sole reason I spent the additional money. I'm okay with the case getting a bit scratched but I the crystal getting scratched would have been a problem. So far, after almost a year of daily wear, my crystal is still perfect.

That was smart.

Every time I look at my watch I regret not spending the extra $100 or at least getting a screen protector.

I am not a fan of the cases. I do not like covering any of my Apple devices. IMO, it takes away from the aesthetics and feel.

Lesson learned!

I would recommend getting the Sport edition, which is not only cheaper, but has a matte finish. It still goes great with most bands, and is very protective against everyday use. It resists scratches great as well.

The downside to the Sport edition is that the crystal is less scratch resistant.
